I received the Baby Call 900Mhz as a Baby Shower present 2 1/2 years ago. It wasn't the most expensive monitor, nor with a lot of extra gadgets but as soon I started using it I loved it. You don't hear any static at all (unless you leave your AT&T phone near, create a loud interference). I loved the fact that you could hear the baby breathing, and making the slight movement, even when the monitor was placed in his changing table that was like 6 feet far from the crib. I liked it so much so when my sister got pregnant I told her to add the same monitor to her Baby Shower gift list. So she got the same for her baby, and the best part was that I count sync my receiver to her baby even when her room was upstairs. The only con that I find is that after 2 1/2 years my receiver "died", but I am not hesitating to get exactly the same one as a replacement! I highly recommend this product!

Like every first time Mom I looked at every possible product on the market. I think I first read about this monitor in Baby Bargains (GREAT book!) - looked at several monitors before deciding on this one and haven't regretted it for one minute. It was a good bit more expensive when we bought it 1 1/2 years ago (about $100 I think vs. the $50 or so you can get it for now). I'm sure every unit is different - I haven't had any problems with mine. So, here's my list: Pros - Rechargeable batteries - you don't know how much you'll love these Crystal clear reception - no static 27 channels to choose from - important with all the electronics we now have Easy to identify when out of range or needing recharge Water resistant Cons - I'd love to have another receiver Would like the range to be a little farther - it tends to beep when I walk out on the porch with it. Granted, that is the farthest point in the house away from the baby's room. We're looking forward to our second child in December and I've started trying to get prepared. Looking at monitors for this room to get a head start and so far. Thought maybe there might be something better on the market after 2 years - guess not. Unless I hear of something new and great I'll likely get another Sony.

I ordered this because my elderly mother came home from the hospital and my dad needed a way to be able to hear her when she was alone and in bed. Without even reading any directions, I was able to pull this out of the package and just switch it on and figure it out. My elderly dad was wary of using anything electronic, but it was so straight forward and easy to use, and incredibly effective, it was a big success. He can hear her very easily. Someone misplaced the directions so we aren't sure how long the battery life is but so far, there haven't been any problems. This is a very effective device for caretakers of people who are sick and/or disabled.

I really like this monitor. It picks up the littlest sounds. I feel okay leaving my baby in another room now that I can always hear her. Even when she's just moving in her bed it picks up that sound. I haven't tried taking it outide though, so I'm not sure how that would work. For the price this is a great monitor. Don't need the expensive types.

We bought several of these, and we've used them exclusively for the past year and two months. No matter what arrangement we use, we get terrible humming interference. Every time I turn on the receiver, I twist it this way and that way, trying to find a position that will make the interference less. It is bad enough that it annoys us with anything we do (TV watching... sleeping... a constant annoyance.) Unfortunately, to be sure I hear my son's cries (and that they wake me up) I typically have to turn the volume way up, which means I've had to get used to sleeping with fairly loud humming noises. I was more or less resigned to this, and thought little of it, until my brother, who is an electrical engineer, visited the house the other day and said that this level of humming was unacceptable -- that engineers know very well how to make devices that won't pick up extra signals like this, and that the product is simply a poorly engineered piece. He did a few tests to ensure that there isn't some strange background noise in my house -- there isn't. It's the monitor that is badly made. One feature of the monitors, by the way, is that you can unplug them and walk around with them using battery power. (The hum gets a bit louder when I do this...) Thus, I can go for trips to the basement, etc., without worry, using this monitor, and then I plug it back into its power source as soon as I'm back, to save the batteries. Now that I know the humming need not be there, I'm going out to buy a competitor's model! So, go elsewhere for your monitor.

We had actually bought what we thought was a more high-end baby monitor at a garage sale. The first time I tried to use that one, it was static city and I couldn't hear even ambient noise in the baby's room. This monitor however worked well right off the bat. No static to speak of and I was able to hear both the TV and the baby in my bedroom with no problems.
