We bought 2 of these, for the top and bottom of the stairs. It was a wide opening, and these gates never worked. They kids could knock them down easily and they fell down all the time. I've only had them for 3 months, and they are both useless now. Already returned one and I' taking the other back today.

We have three gates in our house. This one can't take much abuse. My 16 month has already learned how to out muscle this one by giving it a good shaking. I plan to buy another 'Hands Free Gate' by The First Years. That gate is far superior to this one.

The gate works well for our needs, but doesn't always latch on its own. We manually latch it each time. We use our gate to keep our dogs in our familyroom. After the dogs have pushed on it for a while, the gate may no longer be straight. But all in all, it does what it is made to do. The gate keeps dogs/toddlers in.
